Are KKR out of IPL 2023?

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 1 run in yet another thrilling encounter in the Tata IPL 2023. With the result, LSG ensured themselves a 3rd-place finish in the playoffs, while KKR are languishing in the 7th spot.

  • Batting first at the Eden Gardens, LSG posted a competitive total of 176/8 at the end of their 20 overs.
  • The LSG batting effort was headlined by an excellent, counter-attacking half-century by Nicholas Pooran (58 runs off 30 balls), who took the KKR attack to the cleaners.
  • Prerak Mankad and Ayush Badoni too made vital contributions for the visitors.

For KKR, the pick of the bowlers were Sunil Narine (4 – 0 – 28 – 2), Vaibhav Arora (4 – 0 – 30 – 2) and Harshit Rana (3 – 0 – 21 – 1). In reply, KKR were off to a flying start courtesy of Jason Roy (45 runs off 28 balls) and Venkatesh Iyer (24 runs off 15 balls).

  1. However, KKR lost a flurry of wickets after Iyer departed with the score at 61/1 in 5.5 overs.
  2. The LSG spinners tied a web around the hosts, continuously chipping away at the wickets and not allowing the hosts to break free.
  3. R faced the Himalayan task of scoring 41 runs in the last 2 overs with just 3 wickets in hand until Rinku Singh (67 runs off 33 balls) showed one final act of heroics this season.

In the end, KKR fell short by one run. With the loss, KKR officially got knocked out of the Tata IPL 2023. The ‘Knights’ won just six out of their 14 matches. It was a mixed season for KKR, where some players like Rinku Singh put in exceptional performances, but overall the squad lacked consistency, which resulted in their early exit from the tournament.

Does KKR have chance to qualify in 2023?

Can Kolkata Knight Riders still qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023? – Check Here Ipl 2023 Kkr Retained Players Kolkata Knight Riders have won six out of thirteen games so far in this IPL tournament. Kolkata faced a setback in this IPL season due to a lack of consistent performance from their side. KKR were on the verge of getting eliminated from the IPL 2023 playoff race after losing to Rajasthan Royals very badly in their home but made a comeback against Chennai Super Kings to stay alive in this playoffs race.

  • Current points table scenario:
  • KKR – 6 wins (13 games)
  • Looking at the points table, we have chosen DC, SRH, PBKS, RR, RCB, and MI as the six teams to get eliminated since GT, CSK & LSG already have more than 14 points in the IPL 2023 table.

GT – 9 wins (13 games)CSK – 7 wins (13 games – 1 No Result)LSG – 7 wins (13 games – 1 No Result) MI – 7 wins (13 games)RCB – 6 wins (12 games)RR – 6 wins (13 games)PBKS – 6 wins (12 games)SRH – 4 wins (12 games)DC – 4 wins (12 games) DC and SRH already stand eliminated from the playoffs race as they can maximum get only 12 points in IPL 2023.1.

  • Remaining schedule of MI in IPL 2023: vs SRH in Mumbai, 21st May MI should lose their last match against SRH since they already have 14 points in the table.
  • If we see both MI & KRR will stay at 14 points in the table.
  • R must beat LSG by a very big margin and SRH also must beat MI by a big margin for KKR to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023.2.

Remaining games of RCB in IPL 2023: vs SRH in Hyderabad, 18th Mayvs GT in Bengaluru, 21st May

  1. RCB should lose both of their remaining matches against SRH and GT since they already have 12 points in the table.
  2. 3. Remaining schedule of RR in IPL 2023:
  3. RR should lose to PBKS since they already have 12 points in the table.
  4. 4. Remaining schedule of PBKS in IPL 2023:

vs PBKS in Dharamsala, 19th Mayvs DC in Dharamsala, 17th Mayvs RR in Dharamsala, 19th May PBKS should lose both of their remaining matches against DC and RR since they already have 12 points in the table. But, as per the above scenario, PBKS already defeats RR. PBKS would also end at 14 points with KKR.

  • Thus, KKR has the challenge of surpassing the NRR of PBKS also, in the IPL 2023 points table to qualify for the playoffs.
  • If all this happens – DC, SRH, PBKS, RR, RCB & MI will be eliminated from the playoffs race in IPL 2023.
  • Note: Points table updated till LSG vs MI match-63 of IPL 2023.

Thus, six teams get eliminated if all the above scenario happens, and KKR can qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs with 14 points. : Can Kolkata Knight Riders still qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023? – Check Here

Does KKR still have a chance?

Kolkata Knight Riders (13 matches, 12 points) – NRR: -0.256 – While a crushing nine-wicket defeat at home against RR damaged its Playoffs hopes, KKR bounced back by thumping CSK to stay alive in the race. KKR’s chances remain bleak at 12 points with a game to spare.

  • However, it can take down LSG and jump to 14 points.
  • However, KKR will need a few more results to go its way to stand a chance.
  • It would require MI to beat LSG while also hoping that RCB falters in both of its remaining games (considering its healthy NRR).
  • R will also require Punjab Kings to lose one of its almost.

Not quite done yet. The two-time champion will also PBKS to beat RR but not DC, considering the Royals still hold a positive NRR. The highly improbable scenario will also require RCB to lose at least one match before KKR can manage a dramatic return from the brink Kolkata Knight Riders remaining matches schedule
